Gun control debate continues with local leaders and teachers

Sunday, June 12th 2022 |  SBG San Antonio | NEWS4SA

The event took place downtown with several elected officials including State Senator Jose Menendez and State Representative Ray Lopez. Organizers say they wanted to elevate teachers' voices on the debate since the discussion over gun control includes some calling for more educators to be armed on campus.

Lopez: City has a chance to redefine transit

Ray Lopez, For the Express-News

We have never provided VIA Metropolitan Transit, our bus system, with the funding it needs to grow, modernize and prosper. Comparisons to our peer cities can be illustrative. While VIA is primarily supported by a half-cent sales tax, our sister Texas cities of Houston, Dallas, and Austin all make use of a full penny to fund their transit systems.

Lopez: The state needs to focus on housing first policy

Ray Lopez, For the Express-News

Jan. 30, 2020

I believe it is both a moral and economic imperative that state lawmakers adopt a comprehensive strategy that utilizes a “housing first” policy for individuals living on the street. It must include making accessible a wide range of mental health services, addiction treatments, financial assistance, professional mentorships and more sustainable housing.
